Tedesco Meadow Garden

The client originally reached out to me with questions about how she could creatively reuse the wood from a tree that she unfortunately was needing to take down. She had seen my work showcased at the Community Arts Center and was particularly impressed by how I incorporate stumps and branches to serve as natural edging for paths and garden beds. During our consultation, I guided her on the best methods to have the wood carefully cut by professional arborists. Together, we explored innovative ideas for using that wood to design a new garden inspired by the beauty of meadows, incorporating drought-tolerant native grasses, and a variety of blue, purple, and mauve colored flowering plants. This would not only provide her with an enjoyable space to walk around in but would also create an environment that offers year-round interest, transforming what was previously a lifeless lawn into a vibrant and thriving ecosystem.

This garden was planted in the spring of 2024 with trays of plug (5”x2”) plants and 1 gallon plants. Photos below were taken in the autumn of 2024.

“Working with Austin Dodson Garden Design was an amazing experience!  I appreciated his patient and generous approach to explaining his philosophy and how our decisions influence our ecosystem.  Austin shares both his considerable experience and knowledge about plants and ground,  and also how our choices preserve, protect, and respect the natural world – including insects and animals.  My new ‘meadow space’ is a place for both quiet restful reflection and active observation of so many living things!“  - LT, Media, PA, August 2024
